COLLOQUIUM,
SPEAKER: Jonny Oaks, Student,
Department of Mathematics,
TITLE: The Popularity of Optimization in the World
Abstract:
Operations Research (OR) is a
relatively new field of mathematics that was used by the government during
World War II to make use of limited military resources. Now, there is hardly no big business in the
world that doesn’t have an OR department.
This talk will tell about how and why OR became such a popular field of
study, and some of the many problems that can be solved using OR. We will also hear about some of the jobs and
resources related to OR. Many other
closely related topics will also be discussed.
