SPEAKER: Art Sherwood, Assistant
Professor, Department of Mathematics
TITLE: MATH ‘Ala Mode’ or
‘Enhancements to Teaching 100 level Math’
ABSTRACT:
Adding a little ice cream to a piece of pie will change a ‘no big deal’ desert into something scrumptious! Why not add a little ‘spice’ to your Math classes. Assign a ‘real world’ activity or project and make learning Math concepts a bit less threatening and possibly, fun. During this hour, I will present a number of optional projects and activities that can be adapted to a variety of Math classes. We’ll work on a house plan, become a millionaire (before you die), find out that smoking is not only dangerous to your health but also to your pocket book, etc. So bring a lunch, ‘let your hair down, spin around, get down, and go to town! Grab a friend, an apple for the teacher, and come to the presentation and have some fun. Autographs upon request.
