COLLOQUIUM, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 11:00 AM, STR #138
SPEAKER: Jennifer McGinnis,
Assistant Vice President,
Swiss Re, Fort Wayne, Indiana
TITLE: Actuarial Science: More than Math
ABSTRACT:
Most people have never heard of actuarial science, never mind have any
idea what an actuary does (that is, perhaps, until Matt Damon’s recent comments
referring to “actuary tables” and the likelihood of John McCain’s survival through
one presidential term). And yet, this
field has a remarkable impact on the everyday life of so many. The purpose of this presentation is to
highlight the role an actuary plays in managing risk and discuss how one would
go about pursuing a career in this field.
Anyone with an interest in discovering how math, business, and finance
are blended in this unique profession are strongly encouraged to attend.
