THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2008,
SPEAKER: Dr. Michael Dekker,

Department of Mathematics,
TITLE: Pi or e? Which is the
better number?
Abstract:
Pi
and e, arguably the most famous numbers of mathematics, have histories that
date back hundreds and even thousands of years.
Of course, this naturally leads to this question: which is the better
number? Join us as we watch a fun and
humorous debate on this issue that was held between two mathematics professors
from Williams College. Following the
debate, a vote will be taken to determine the preferred number at Ferris State.
REFRESHMENTS: 11:00 AM, STARR 138
