11th Grade Goals

  1. Review of 9th and 10th research expectations.
  2. Research concepts covered:
    1. Use of animals in research
    2. Use of human subjects in conducting research/clinical investigations
    3. Ethics in science research
  3. Statistics continued;
    1. Experimental design
    2. Internal vs. external validity
    3. Experiments vs. survey research
    4. More inferential statistics
    5. Design of statistical data tables
  4. Research project:
    1. Each student will complete a one-semester physics/elective laboratory investigation.
    2. Each investigation will be written up according to specific guidelines and turned in for evaluation.
    3. Each student will be expected to present a short description of his or her research investigation to their class.
    4. Each student will present a poster presentation of their project and field questions from guests.
  5. Complete student outcome expectations and an abstract of their investigation will be recorded in their portfolio.
  6. Evaluation/Credit/ Comprehensive Exam. Students will be evaluated on the design and presentation of their research projects at each grade level plus a test of content presented. For credit a comprehensive test will be given at the end of the 11th grade and pass/fail credit will be assigned.
