New facility will help retain, recruit students

Ann Hemmeke, O.D.A new facility would help us attract more high-caliber students to campus who would more likely do their undergraduate studies at Ferris as well. In the next few years, many current faculty will retire, and a new facility will attract quality replacements. In a new building I would like to see areas for students to study in groups or by themselves. I envision a new building with a first-floor clinic so the older patients have easier access.

Matt JohnsonI personally believe a new building would benefit current students and help in recruiting new students. We make do with what we have, but he classrooms are crowded. With the layout of the building, patients find it difficult to locate the clinic, which is on the fifth floor. A new facility with better climate control would also help tremendously.

Derek HamiltonA new clinic should be on the first floor and have almost a commercial appeal. A better facility with more aesthetic appeal would make a difference in the kind and number of patients that we attract, especially if we had a strong street presence. Another disadvantage is that the rooms we use are not long enough when we work with projection equipment.

Debbie SearlesThe benefits of a new optometry building would extend beyond the students and faculty to the community of Big Rapids and the profession of optometry. The community will be better served with a more convenient, accessible building. A new medical facility should represent professionalism and competency. A new MCO facility would help us better manage patients, especially the elderly and the handicapped. I would like to see the clinic on one floor with accessible testing areas. Check-in and check-out should be consistent with patient flow and the dispensing area should be readily available to patients and customers. There should also be an area specifically for vision screenings.
