Student I.D.:
Nichole Wheelock

Nichole Wheelock
Nichole Wheelock
Student:
Nichole Wheelock, student supervisor in the Student Leadership and Activities Office; Honors program peer mentor coordinator; Homecoming Chair; and Co-Chair for the Student United Way Campaign.

Hometown:
Traverse City

Year:
Senior

Major:
Social Work

Chose Ferris because:
“I was first drawn to the Pharmacy program. Then I went to education career counseling, which is where I found my new major. The staff, faculty and people overall were so welcoming that no matter what program you’re in, you’re going to want to stay.”

Volunteers for:
Ferris Gold Club; Take Back the Night; Walk for Warmth; Bowl for Kids’ Sake; Relay for Life; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Make-a-Wish Foundation. “I spend most of my volunteer time with a campus group called Ferris Idols that works directly with Big Brothers, Big Sisters. We started out with a core of 20 of us, who all got matched up with a ‘little.’ We’ve more than doubled our membership. We do about an event a month from service activities to pool parties. For the past two years we’ve served Thanksgiving dinner and hosted holiday parties.”

The best thing about volunteering is:

“Think of all those people you support especially with Take Back the Night, which supports sexual assault and rape prevention. You may never see those women, but you know you’re making a difference.”

What’s on my iPod:
Justin Timberlake. Colbie Caillat. Soundtracks to “Hairspray” and “Rent.” The Dixie Chicks. Keith Anderson.

Most essential thing in backpack:
Pink smiley-face ring. “Last year during a really stressful time in our office I picked up a pack of smiley-face rings and handed them to people. It just reminds me that even though I might be busy balancing school, extracurricular activities, work and everything else, it’s important to stop and smile.”

You should know that:
“I’ve always had a heart for service.”
