Raquel Hansen
Raquel Hansen
Becky Hoffman
Becky Hoffman
Ferris State University had three members of its nationally-ranked women’s golf team named to the 2006-07 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team and a pair of seniors from the men’s golf team named 2007 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for Division II.
Sophomore Raquel Hansen along with junior Becky Hoffman and senior Casey McKinnon earned All-Scholar Team recognition. Hansen was chosen to the squad for the second consecutive year while Hoffman is a three-time selection and McKinnon a four-time honoree. AST members must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and have completed in at least 66 percent of their teams regularly-scheduled competitive rounds.

Jeff Carlson and Kyle Mason repeated as All-America Scholars for the men’s team, earning the same accolades they received for the 2005-06 season. Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar Team recognition is only bestowed to juniors and seniors who carry a 3.2 minimum cumulative GPA and have a stroke average under 78 for Division II.
Hansen, a 2006-07 All-GLIAC Second-Team pick, compiled a 79.27 stroke average for the season. She was a 2006-07 co-recipient of the Athletics department’s Willie Bouyer Leadership Award.
Hoffman recorded both a team-leading and career-best 76.86 stroke average during the 2006-07 season, which represents program’s second-best ever mark. A three-time first-team All-GLIAC selection and the team’s 2006-07 MVP, Hoffman repeated as winner of the President’s Academic Award. Her 78.49 career stroke average is the best in school history.
McKinnon owns the distinction of being only the second Bulldog women’s golfer to be a four-year all-conference first-team member. She also landed a spot on the GLIAC All-Academic Team for four straight seasons.
The trio led the nationally-ranked Bulldogs to a third-place national finish last year, marking the fourth consecutive year in which the women’s golf team placed in the top four teams nationally.

The three-time GLIAC All-Academic Team selection garnered top individual medalist honors at the 2007 NCAA-II Great Lakes Super Regional.
Mason, 2005-06 team MVP, averaged 76.77 strokes per round last season. He wrapped up his four-year career as a three-time GLIAC All-Academic Team selection, and was a recipient of the President’s Academic Award in each of the last two seasons.

Klobucher Named Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Mike Klobucher
Mike Klobucher
Mike Klobucher, a senior on the 2006 Bulldog football team, has been selected the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 2006-07 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was also named Division II Conference Commissioners Association National Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Klobucher closed out his four-year football career as one of the most decorated players in the program’s history. The three-year starter at middle linebacker not only was the 2006 recipient of the Jack H. McAvoy Award for outstanding character and leadership on the field, but also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Football First-Team and was tabbed a 2006 American Football Coaches Association Division II All-America Team honoree.
The two-time team defensive co-captain was chosen as a member of the 2006 National Football Foundation’s National Scholar-Athlete Class and was a finalist for the prestigious Draddy Trophy, awarded annually to college football’s top scholar-athlete. In April, Klobucher was inducted into the inaugural NFF National Honor Society after being selected as the 2006 NFF Michigan Chapter’s Morley Fraser Award Division II Scholar-Athlete.
The 2006 GLIAC First-Team pick and two-time Most Valuable Player paced Ferris in tackles this past campaign for the third consecutive year with 92 total stops (47 solo) as the nationally-ranked Bulldogs produced their best record since 1996 at 8-3-0 overall. Klobucher concluded his collegiate career ranking seventh among the program’s all-time tackles leaders with 389 career stops (206 solo) in 42 games.
An Applied Biology major, Klobucher garnered GLIAC All-Academic Team laurels in 2006 as well as being the squad’s recipient of the President’s Academic Award for having the team’s highest cumulative grade point average.

Basha Earns All-America Honors

Laura Crower
Molly Basha
Senior Molly Basha of the 2006-07 women’s tennis team wrapped up her Bulldog career by being named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II All-America Team. She was the only student-athlete from a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference institution or a Great Lakes Region school named to the women’s squad this past season.
Basha placed 20th in the final national singles listing and was the region’s top-ranked singles player. She is also the first Bulldog women’s player to attain All-America kudos since the program’s first-ever All-Americans Jennifer Garvey and Barbora Jilkova earned the honors following the 2001-02 campaign.
A co-recipient of Ferris’ Most Valuable Player honor after leading the Bulldogs to their 12th consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearance, Basha also received the GLIAC Player of the Year Award in the fall 2006 season, compiled an impressive 22-3 overall singles record and was 26-4 in doubles play last season. Basha registered a 19-2 singles dual mark at the number one flight, including a 9-0 record in league matches.
Teamed with fellow senior Marissa Muchow, Basha posted a 20-2 dual mark at the top doubles flight. The duo, which was 9-0 in conference play, advanced to the 2006 ITA National Small College Championships where they finished seventh overall. The tandem previously claimed the regional doubles crown at the ITA Great Lakes Championships.
The three-time All-GLIAC First Team selection concluded her career as one of the most decorated players in school history with a 74-19 career singles record and a 73-18 doubles mark. Both totals rank her among the top 10 all-time performers in school history. During her career, Basha helped the Bulldogs to a four-year overall record of 56-28, including a 33-5 record in league action.
