Det. Mark Boody
Det. Mark Boody

The Novi Police Department recently honored Detective Mark Boody (EHS'96) as the Novi Police Officer of the Year. Boody joined the NPD in 1995 and, in 2003, was assigned to the force's Investigative Section. Currently, his primary responsibility is serving as the department's juvenile investigator.
Det. Boody is known throughout Oakland County for his investigative skills and tireless work in protecting the quality of life for young people. This year he was asked to serve on the Oakland County Child Abuse Advisory Board, providing a new resource for all area child abuse law enforcement.
Boody has excelled at obtaining multiple convictions on cases where young people have been abused.
"We are extremely proud of Detective Boody's accomplishments, and he is a true asset to the City of Novi," said Novi Chief of Police David Molloy. "The services he provides, not only to the youth of our community, but to area communities, is invaluable."

Bulldog Hall of Famer Waters to Head CSU

Gary Waters
Gary Waters

Former basketball player and assistant coach Gary Waters (EHS'78) was hired last April as head men's basketball coach at Cleveland State University.
As a player, Waters led Ferris to a 47-10 record. He also served from 1975-89 as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs. Eastern Michigan University hired Waters as an assistant and promoted him to associate head coach from 1989-96. Hired in '96 by Kent State, Waters led the Golden Flashes to three post-season berths, where he was twice named MAC Coach of the Year. Kent State reached its first NCAA Tournament in 1999, advanced to the NIT's Elite Eight in 2000 and upset Indiana in the first round of the 2001 "Big Dance."
Waters moved to Rutgers for the 2001-02 season, leading the Scarlet Knights to an 18-13 record. Two years later, Rutgers won 20 games and advanced to the NIT championship game. This past season, Rutgers made its third NIT appearance under Waters.
Waters was inducted into the Bulldog Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.

Schopieray Picked to Lead Pumas

Jill Schopieray
Jill Schopieray

NCAA Division II Saint Joseph's (Ind.) has selected former Ferris women's volleyball player and assistant coach Jill (Behrns) Schopieray (B'01) as its new head coach.
Schopieray, who has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA-I Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., will be the Pumas' seventh head coach in the program's 31-year history.
While at Ferris State, Schopieray helped the Bulldogs compile a 93-38 overall record from 1998-2002 while serving two seasons each as both a player (1998-99) and the squad's second assistant coach (2000-01). In 1999, she was the recipient of the team's Heart Award as a result of playing despite reoccurring knee problems.
Schopieray joined the Bulldog coaching staff in 2000 and helped guide the Bulldogs to a 21-11 overall record and a second-place GLIAC finish in 2001. The team won 20 matches or more in all four of her seasons with the program.
