Student Recruiting Goes High-Tech
The
University introduced its first student recruiting CD-ROM last summer,
featuring lively videos, welcoming photos, student testimonials, facts
about educational opportunities at Ferris and links to University Web
sites.
A
CD-ROM viewbook offers several exciting benefits—it’s less
expensive to mail, it links students to the Ferris State Web site and
it gets attention. Ferris is one of only a few universities in the state
with a CD-ROM replacing the traditional brochure.
The
CD was created using talent from the campus community. Honor students
wrote the script, which targets high-school age students. Student leaders
appear on many pages, explaining the advantages of Ferris in video segments.
Students also are featured on testimonials throughout. Admissions and
University Relations and Marketing staff coordinated the CD with the
assistance of a professional CD development firm.
“As
a hands-on, technological university, Ferris can best be represented
by an interactive presentation such as this CD,” says Publications
Manager Susan Starkey. “Every one of the 40 pages has a link to
the appropriate part of our Web site, so that the prospective student
has access to all the information on the CD, plus everything on our
recruiting Web site. Students can apply for admission or sign up for
a visit online while viewing the CD.”
The
CD will be distributed by Admissions counselors as they visit high schools
throughout the region. The CD also will be sent to high-school students
who list Ferris as their first choice to receive their ACT scores.
