The 1960s
Roger Elkins (E’67), Evart, Mich., retired from his teaching position at Reed City Area Public Schools and is now director of Downtown Business Association of Big Rapids.
Harry Grenawitzke (AH’69), Monroe, Mich., was named recipient of the 2002 Walter S. Mangold Award. Grenawitzke received the award, the highest honor the National Environmental Health Association bestows on its members, in recognition of his contributions to environmental and public health. He is vice president of Regulatory Affairs of NSF International, The Public Health and Safety Company(tm), which announced the award.The

1970s
Tom Baldwin (E’73), Shelby Twp., Mich., retired as principal of Algonac High School.
Sen. Phil Hoffman (E’74), Horton, Mich., has received the Presidential Citation Award from the Michigan Sheriff’s Association for outstanding and extraordinary professional service to the criminal justice system and the law enforcement profession.
Donald Wieschowski (AH’74), Traverse City, Mich., was promoted to nurse manager of West Shore Medical Center’s emergency department.
David Coffin (T’76), Ada, Ohio, received his Doctor of Ministry degree at Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findlay and now serves at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Ada.
Joseph Hibberd (AH’77), Stillwater, Mich., was re-elected secretary of the Minnesota Environmental Health Assn., and received the Frank A. Staffenson Environmental Health Professional of the Year award.
Esther Andrews (E’78), Berwyn, Ill., has published “Case Studies in Dental Hygiene,” a text for all levels and courses in the dental hygiene curriculum.
Mark Emmons (E’79), Virginia Beach, Va., recently retired from active duty as a Navy lieutenant commander after 20 years of service.
Jeff Thomack (T’79), Traverse City, Mich., is now Traverse City office manager of Western Concrete Products Co.


On May 31 - June 2, Alexandria Lane (B’89) took part in the Michigan Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day—a walk from Ann Arbor to Detroit.

Lane walked 20 miles a day, slept in tents and took hot showers in a mobile truck to help raise money for breast cancer research. Lane was walking in part for one of her grandmothers who underwent surgery in order to survive the disease.

The 1980s
Dee Clark (P’84), Gaylord, Mich., has accepted a full-time pharmacist position at Glen’s Pharmacy in Mancelona.
Cheryl (Vanyorx) Finnie (B’85), Lowell, Mich., has been named C.F.O. and partner of Carbonic Systems, Inc. in Grand Rapids.
Michele (DeSana) Reitmeyer (AH’85), Wyandotte, Mich., announces the birth of Daniel Alan, Jr., who joins older sisters Jessica and Jacqueline. Michele works in pediatrics.
Christine Quinn (E’86), Holt, Mich., is now executive director of South Central Michigan Works!, which has a service delivery area covering Hillsdale, Jackson and Lenawee counties.
Brian Thomson (E’86), Frankenmuth, Mich., is now mortgage loan originator at Independent Bank East Michigan.
Darla Decker (B’87), St. Joseph, Mich., has received her Family Life Education B.A. from Spring Arbor College. She has been a State of Michigan Family Independence Agency employee for 12 years.
Amy Lee (B’87), Spring Lake, Mich., wed Gregory Miedema of Hudsonville.
David Peel (T’89), Murfreesboro, Tenn., has graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with an MBA.
Robert Walser (T’89), Hanover Park, Ill., graduated from Benedictine University in Lisle with a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Technology Instruction.

The 1990s
Rob Biggar (B’90), Canton, Mich., was recently certified in Production and Inventory Management. Rob is manager of the Component Procurement and Supply Dept. at Yazaki North America.
Julie (Mattson) Hahn (E’90), Portage, Mich., was named “Teacher of the Year” for the Parchment School District for the 2001-2002 school year.
Peter Jenkins (T’91), Mankato, Minn., was recently installed as director of the Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors.
Timothy Wright (T’91), Shepherd, Mich., married Elonka DeAnn of Owosso.
Christine Reinert (B’92), Saginaw, Mich., earned her Associate in Claims designation from the American Institute of Chartered Property Underwriters.


Darla Decker (B’87) recently enrolled in Ferris State’s Study Abroad program.

As part of the program Decker took part in a trip to France lead by Languages and Literature Professor Daniel Noren.

The 12-member group visited France, Switzerland and Monaco May 8-27.

In Paris the nine students and three professors visited such famous landmarks as the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Tuileries Gardens, the Louvre, Pompidou Center, Versailles Palace, and took a boat ride on the Seine River. They also took in an evening show at the Moulin Rouge while staying in the hotel L’Epic.

Traveling by train they made a pilgrimage to the Abbey of Mont Saint Michel in Normandy. A canoe trip on the Rhone in Avignon allowed everyone to enjoy the French countryside.

Students stayed with host families in Avignon to learn the language, customs and experience of everyday French life.

While in Provence the group visited the Lavender Museum, Mount Ventoux, Arles (where Van Gogh painted), the Roman era Arena there, Les Baux de Provence, Gordes, St. Rémy, the Camargue, and a one-day excursion to Lourdes (out of Provence), the Fontaine de Vaucluse, and the Palais des Papes. In Switzerland they toured the Nestle factory in Montreux and cruised beautiful Lake Geneva on a steam-paddle boat.

From there the group took the high speed (185 mph) Trains a Grande Vitesse to Nice and Monaco, where students visited the Museum of Oceanographic and its displays of Jacques Cousteau artifacts.

In Monte Carlo, while the famous Cannes Film Festival was taking place, they saw Prince Rainer’s castle and casino.

Jeffrey Smith (B’93), Howell, Mich., is now property manager for the Detroit Lions Headquarters and Training Facility in Allen Park through Ford Motor Company.
Christopher Cullen (B’94), Montague, Mich., married Deanna (Grumm) Brown (E’88), also of Montague.
Michael H. Mancini (E’96), Lapeer, Mich., was promoted to the rank of sergeant by the Rochester Police Dept.
Michelle Sharp (E’96), Ft. Campbell, Ky., is now principal at Pewamo-Westphalia High School.
Angela (Francis) Scripter (AH’97), Owosso, Mich., and her husband Randy had their first child, Reed Alexander. Angie works as a coder at Memorial Healthcare.
Michael Barger (T’98), Grand Rapids, Mich., has accepted a position as Survey Group manager at Wade-Trim, Inc.
Robin Currie (T’98), Lansing, Mich., wed Michelle Weber, also of Lansing.
Jennifer Gray (AS’98), APO New York, is Navy Petty officer 3rd Class and was named blue jacket of the year at Naval Media Center Headquarters for journalistic achievement.
Ryan Smith (T’98), Bronson, Mich., married Lisa Lodwick of Atlanta, Ga.

The 2000s
Stephenie Gale (AH’00), Hart, Mich., married Dustin Vanderputte (E’00) of Muskegon.
Stacey Jones (B’00), Port Huron, Mich., will wed Joe Kautz (B’99) of Croswell.
Christina Mekas (B’00), Dexter, Mich., was recently married.
John Vidican (T’00), Newport, Mich., has joined the surveying department of Gould Engineering in Grand Blanc Township as a surveyor technician.
Tamara (Jenison) Williams (O’00), Owosso, Mich., has joined Dr. Roger Seelye and Dr. Richard Ball in their optometry practice.
Laurie King (AH’01), Monroe, Mich., wed Ryan Tomkinson (B’01), also of Monroe.
Nicholas Malokofsky (E’01), Pensacola, Fla., recently received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School.
Joshua Perkins (EHS ’01) is outdoor education director at YMCA Camp Weona in Buffalo, New York.
Stacy Rydeski (AH’98, ’00), Wakefield, Mich., and Geoff Eldred (T’00), of Williamston, were married in June 2001. Geoff was the drummer for the FSU Jazz Band 1996-2000, and they both played percussion for the FSU pep bands. Geoff is employed as a construction superintendent with Pulte Homes of Michigan.
Stephenie Stewart (AH’01), Lansing, Mich., wed Gabriel Sizemore (B’99) of East Lansing.
