Michigans
126th Press Camp Headquarters, commanded by Lt. Col. Thomas F. Lamie
(B77), deployed to Bosnia for six months in support of the
ongoing peacekeeping mission Operation Joint Forge on March 31,
2001.
Operating
as a Coalition Press Information Center for the Multi-National Division
(North) the 126th is made up of four units (two Army Guard and two
Army Reserve) and provides public affairs teams to support US Army
operations in Germany, Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The team
uses the latest digital technology and publish two magazines, the
Eagle Talon in Bosnia and the Endeavor in Taszar, Hungary. The Talon
on-line version can be viewed at www.tfeagle.army.mil.
Lt.
Col. Lamie is the spokesperson for Multi-National Division
North (MND-N) and attends weekly press conferences sponsored by
the UN Office of the High Representative at OHRs embassy in
Brcko. Press conferences sponsored by the Office for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) rotate in the different MND-N areas:
Bijeljina in the Russian Sector, Doboj in the Nordic-Polish Battle
Group sector and Zvornik in the eastern Republik Srpska. The conferences
are held to inform the local media of NATO Stabilization Force (SFOR)
activities and activities of the International Community (OHR, OSCE,
and UN MiB for Refugees).
The
United States presence in Bosnia-Herzegovina started in 1995 at
the cessation of hostilities in this ethnic-war torn country. The
SFOR mission is to ensure a safe and secure environment is maintained
allowing the free movement of refugees back to their homes and re-establishment
of institutions and trade. Much progress has been made as a direct
result of the US presence, Lamie reports.
