Im
amazed that already I am writing to you with holiday greetings and
reflections on an awesome fall semester at Ferris.
It was
great to see so many of you return to campus for Homecoming 2001.
Celebrating what Ferris State University was and what it has become,
and finding time to Paws to Reflect was truly special
this year. We now have pictures and recaps of all the events available
on our online community at www.ferrisalumni.org. Thank you all for
your continued support!
I will
be starting a new feature, Off The Porch, for my Crimson
& Gold column. With each new edition I will share an experience
Ive had with a fellow alumna or alumnus. I will be highlighting
how Ferris graduates are succeeding in a wide variety of careers.
As some
of you know, I am a graduate of Ferris Criminal Justice Program.
However, before I had the chance to patrol in a squad car or write
a PSI (pre-sentence investigation) I began working for you, the Alumni
of Ferris.
Recently
I accepted an offer to participate in a ride-along with
Livonia Police Officer and Ferris Alumnus Erik Leinonen (E99).
Although Livonia, Mich., is often touted as one of our countrys
top suburbs, there is still a great need for people like Erik to protect
and serve.
Before
hitting the streets we were briefed on the problems and concerns facing
our shift. Then we cruised. Leinonen enforced the new click
it or ticket law, searched an abandoned building for some rowdy
youths and responded to calls from both private citizens and area
businesses. And in case youre wondering, yes, we did stop for
Krispy Kremes.
Many
of the officers on the Livonia Police Department were trained at Ferris.
Reconnecting with them and with my own area of study was a great experience.
My thanks to Erik and everyone on the LPD for the opportunity to be
a part of law enforcement in action.
Do you
have a unique job or exciting career? Send me an e-mail at mishlerj@ferris.edu
and perhaps I can visit, learn about what you do and tell the Ferris
community about it. |
Sincerely,

Jeremy J. Mishler, E96
