From the Alumni Director |
Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Sarasota, Anaheim, Phoenix, Tucson and Denver . . . whew!
It used to be that touching base with the vast majority of our fellow Bulldogs meant traveling Michigan’s freeways and county roads. Now, however, our outreach to alumni stretches from New York City, where Omnicom Executive Vice President Robert Norsworthy (see “Portrait of the Executive as an Actor” on page 14) also works on his acting chops, to Los Angeles where Jon Rosten just completed directing and producing an independent full-length movie (see “An Angelic Debut” on page 20).
Our thanks goes out to the many alumni and emeriti volunteers who helped organize our most recent round of activities, including the Professional Golf Management Alumni Association Board and PGM staff for the event in Orlando; Howard Stross (B’69) in Tampa; emeriti Ray and Mary Jane Helsing and Bob and Mary Louise Leach in Sarasota; Larry Marfechuk (E’68) in Miami; Chris Kunitz (B’03) in Anaheim; Rob Curtis (B’87) in Phoenix; emeriti Newell and Barb Johnson in Tucson; and Luke Wyckoff (EHS’91, B’93) in Denver. We know that many more of you in other areas of the country look forward to helping make this magic happen in your neck of the woods, too.
As the living repository of the University’s history and traditions, our strong alumni network is at the heart of the real-world education and career-centered opportunity that is uniquely Ferris. Alumni are the embodiment of our mission. I was reminded of this as we gathered to remember how the campus looked back in the day (whether that day was back in the 1940s or the 2000s) and to hear new stories about alumni whose Ferris education helped them establish successful careers. No matter how far away from Ferris you may be, together we can ensure that yet another generation of students at Ferris has the opportunity and experience they need and deserve. With May commencement nearly upon us, it is a pleasure to note that the strength and scope of our alumni network has never been more important and vibrant.
There are many more activities ahead for Ferris Alumni this summer (see Alumni Events). And whether you’re a new alumna/alumnus, or proud graduate of FSC or perhaps ole’ FI we truly look forward to having you join us to share your reflections, ideas and dreams. Or just get together to knock the golf ball around and reminisce.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Mishler, E '96
