Glen Lipka (P’50)
Glen Lipka (P’50), Montague, Mich., was honored by the city of Montague with “Glen Lipka Day,” which thanked the long-time owner of Lipka’s Drugstore for his contributions to the community. Lipka bought the former Howard Ripley drugstore in downtown when he was just 23. Lipka currently serves on the Montague Township Board of Trustees.

Norbert Mueller (T’77, B’78)
Norbert Mueller (T’77, B’78), and his wife, Carol, Boise, Idaho, adopted Madeline Marie XinWen Mueller this past March in Hunan Province, Peoples Republic of China. Norbert is director of construction for Albertson’s, Inc., in Boise. Albertson’s is the third largest supermarket chain in the U.S. and a Fortune 100 company.

Joel Martinchek (B’81) and Audrey (McKenzie) Martinchek (AS’81), Cheboygan, Mich., have earned the prestigious “Coldwell Banker Previews International Property Specialist Designation.” To date fewer than five percent of Coldwell Banker sales associates have been awarded this designation, which allows them to work with, and market to, buyers and sellers in the luxury market nationwide.

Tom and Tony Noto (B’82 and E’79, respectively)
Tom and Tony Noto (B’82 and E’79, respectively), Grand Rapids, Mich., received the Grimod dela Reyniere Award for Meritorious Service from Grand Rapids Magazine. The magazine also cited family members Mary, Joann and Santina. The award was given in recognition of the Notos community involvement, including hosting the annual Feast for Kids, conducted by the American Culinary Federation Greater Grand Rapids Chefs Association, in benefit of inner-city children.

Tracie Kenyon (P’83) and Roger Pelton (T’79), South Lyon, Mich., wed on Feb. 8 in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Russ Fatum (B’86)
Russ Fatum (B’86), Fort Wayne, Ind. was recently promoted to the position of director of labor and employee relations for Textron Inc. located in Providence, R.I. Textron is a multi-industry Fortune 100 company whose many brands include Cessna Aircraft, Bell Helicopter, EZ-GO, Jacobson, Greenlee and Kautex. Fatum was formerly director of human resources for Kautex North America. He and his wife, Gail (Loehr) Fatum (B’87) are relocating to Rhode Island.

Matt Berry (B’90), <em>Up on Daddy’s Shoulders</em>
Matt Berry (B’90), Celina, Ohio, is the author of Up on Daddy’s Shoulders, published by Scholastic Inc., the nation’s largest publisher of children’s books. Illustrated by Lucy Corvino, the book explores a boy’s special bond with his father.

John Moore (B’94) and Kellie (Boyd) Moore (EHS’92), Morley, Mich., announce the birth of son Zayne Christian who turned one on May 1.

Brian Buter (EHS’95), West Olive, Mich., and wife, Tara, announce the birth of their fourth son, Mathias Neal, born Dec. 20, 2005. Mathias was welcomed home by his brothers Jacob, Zachariah and Abraham.

Splash of Tulips
Kenneth Cadwallader (K’96), Grand Rapids, Mich., had his painting “Splash of Tulips” featured as the image on Holland’s 2006 Tulip Time Festival poster. In a first for the festival, “Splash of Tulips” was made available as a limited edition glicée canvas print.

Ryan Phelps (B’02)
Ryan Phelps (B’02), Jacksonville, Fla., a graduate of the Professional Golf Management program, received the Outstanding Golf Pro of the Year award from the Billy Casper Golf Company, a national company that owns and manages golf courses across the U.S. Ryan is head golf professional for Bent Creek Golf Club in Jacksonville.

Nicholas Wasmiller (B’03) and Amy Fasel (AHS’02)
Nicholas Wasmiller (B’03) and Amy Fasel (AHS’02), Grand Rapids, Mich., were married on Aug. 27, 2005 at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Mich. Nick serves as an account executive for Seyferth Spaulding Tennyson, a Michigan-based public relations agency, and Amy works at Saint Mary’s Medical Center as a medical technologist.

Amy Schmitzer (AHS’04), Vassar, Mich., married Chad Arnold (T’05) of Freeland. The couple resides in Wyoming.

Harry Pfeifer (P’52), La Mesa, Calif., and his wife, Margaret, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July. Eleven members of their family joined them on an Alaskan cruise.

Bruce Jones (B’59), Ravenna, Mich., was elected to the Ravenna High School Sports Hall of Fame class of 2005. Jones played basketball at Ferris from 1955-59. He is retired from his business at Ravenna Lumber Co.

Bill Brinker (K’68), Saginaw, Mich., had his art featured during the month of February by Saginaw Charter Township Art in Public Places.

Maynard Thompson (EHS’60), Cadillac, Mich., was named to the Ravenna High School Sports Hall of Fame.

1970s
Dan Clark (B’70), Center Valley, Penn., is retiring after 37 years with JC Penney and moving with his wife, Cher, to Punta Gorda, Fla.

Kathleen Natushko (AH’71), Madison Heights, Mich., runs Purebreed Lab Rescue Inc., which strives to “rescue, foster, and place any Lab in need of a new home.” Visit www.purebreedlabrescueinc.com.

Richard Barz (B’72), Mt. Pleasant, Mich., was named Citizen of the Year by the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce. Barz, president and CEO of Isabella Bank and Trust, also was elected earlier this year as chairman of Central Michigan Community Hospital’s board of directors.

Granville Brown (EHS’76), Henderson, Nev., was selected to receive Emeritus status from Grand Rapids Community College. His new status was formally recognized at GRCC’s reception for retirees on May 3.

Forrest Hester (P’76), Springfield, Ill., has been named senior vice president and chief human resources officer for Memorial Health System.

Kay Sommerfeld (B’79), Wyoming, Mich., served as a court reporter for Muskegon County Circuit court for 28 years before retiring this past year.

1980s
J. D. Casey (B’80), Tampa, Fla., has formed J.D. Casey Productions Inc., a low-budget film making company specializing in horror and satire DVDs. On May 18th the company released its first DVD title in its Brinke’s Tales of horror series ­ a quarterly horror anthology hosted by B-movie legend Brinke Stevens. Pete Carlson (AS’81), Hersey, Mich., married Leanna Donley and formed a new family with step-daughters Alex and Megan. Carlson is community corrections director for Osceola County after 20 years in corrections.

JoAnn Crary (B’81), Frankenmuth, Mich., has been named to Citizens Bank’s Tri-County Advisory board of directors.

John Beattie (AS’82), Auburn Hills, Mich., was recently promoted from vice president, senior art director to vice president, associate creative director at McCann Erickson at the company’s Birmingham office, which creates advertising and integrated marketing communications programs for Buick Motor Division, Delphi, Detroit Medical Center and a variety of other clients.

Teresa (Vaught) Cook (B’82), Big Rapids, Mich., recently received her Ph.D. in Organization & Management from Capella University while her husband, James Cook (EHS’80), recently completed his master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University. Teresa is a member of the accounting faculty at Ferris and Jim is assistant director of Ferris’ Department of Public Safety. They were married in October 2001.

Brian Nyland (B’83), Wixom, Mich., became vice president of finance for Bharat Forge America Inc., effective this past April. Their North American operations produce large forged parts primarily for the automotive industry. Current sales are $60 million with expected growth to more than $100 million by 2008. Bharat Forge is part of the Kalyani Group based in India.

Joseph Pistrui, Ph.D. (B’83), London, England, has recently joined Duke Corporate Education’s London office as managing director. Duke CE is a carve-out of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Kurt Proctor (P’84), Fairfax Station, Va., has been appointed to the board of SureScripts, the nation’s largest network of electronic prescribing services. Proctor is the COO of Community MTM Services.

Steven Rehfus (T’88), Fowlerville, Mich., a compliance engineer in the emissions controls certification department of Program Management Homologation, received the Homologator of the Year award for calendar year 2005. The award was established to recognize those who approach the task of vehicle certification with true dedication.

Connie M. Koski (EHS’90), Ypsilanti, Mich., has been accepted on a full scholarship to the criminal justice Ph.D. program at the University of Nebraska-Omaha beginning the Fall 2006 semester.

Blaine D. Priebe Jr., (T’90), Troy, Mich., has accepted a position as senior technical representative with Ashland Distribution in Troy.

Teresa Pitney (EHS’91), Whitehall, Mich., wed Eric Nelson of Marquette.

Scott French (B’96), Lachine, Mich., wed Sherri Fountain of Oshawa, Ontario.

Jenny McInerney (EHS’96), Chesterfield Twp., Mich., has been hired by Color Bars Communications, Inc., a digital video production company in Warren, Mich., as director of marketing. McInerney worked previously for BCI as a producer/director.

Dean Racine (EHS’96), Ishpeming, Mich., wed Shannon Everhart of Marinette, Wis.

Patrick A. Irish (EHS’97), Summit, N.J., has accepted a position as a senior scientist in the newly formed structure elucidation group for Schering-Plough. He will be performing NMR and high-resolution MS on pharmaceutical candidates to determine molecular structure.

Jennifer Hannah (B’98), Big Rapids, Mich., wed Michael Hummer of Newago.

Jennifer Patera (AH’98), Ionia, Mich., wed Joseph Fisher (T’95) of Farwell, Mich. They reside in St. Johns.

Jill (Suida) Castle (P’99), Harbor Beach, Mich., and husband, William, announce the birth of daughter Claire Marie on Sept. 14, 2005. Claire was welcomed home by big brother Alex, age two.

John Denholm (B’00), Willoughby, Ohio, is the new golf pro at Steubenville Country Club.

Todd Prins (T’00) and Becky (Lambert) Prins (AH’01), Howell, Mich., announce the birth of daughter, Averie Belle, on Jan. 26. She was welcomed home by her 2 1/2-year-old sister Kendall Grace.

Luke Ethington (E’03), Breckenridge, Mich., received the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association’s Steve Spicer Leadership Award. Ethington is assistant men’s basketball coach at Alma College, a physical education teacher at Breckenridge High School and the BHS varsity basketball coach.

Matt Phillips (EHS’03), Eastpointe, Mich., was awarded the Wade H. McCree Award for the Advancement of Justice at the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in East Lansing last April. Phillips is a Broadcast Production Specialist with Sterling Heights Television. He received the award for his work on an episode of “Legally Speaking,” which he produces. The show is a cooperative effort of Sterling Heights and the Macomb County Bar Association.

Diana Gaines, RN, BSN, (AHS ’05), Mt. Pleasant, Mich., has been named director of ambulatory care services (Emergency Department and Ready Care) at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Neil Johnson (EHS’05), Bay City, Mich., was sworn in as police officer for Saginaw Township last March.
