From the Alumni Director |
Fall marks the annual return of students to Ferris State University. Although summer enrollment has been at record levels for the past three years, the arrival of students in the fall brings with it a sense of renewal and excitement as many freshmen set up their own housekeeping for the first time in their lives. I am always amazed how a student can fit everything from a 20-foot U-Haul trailer into a single residence hall room. (With roommates, make that the contents of two U-Haul trailers!) It seems to defy certain laws of physics.
I remember my own move-in day with great fondness. I didn’t need a trailer for my stuff. I was able to fit all my worldly possessions in my dad’s 1989 Chrysler LeBaron including a recliner lashed by a bungie cord precariously in/to the trunk. Thankfully, it survived the three-hour trek to Big Rapids from Lapeer. Sweating, I wrestled that chair up to the second floor of Brophy-McNerney Hall. I made that trip lugging various boxes and bags about 30 times. My father was very helpful offering his insight on proper feng shui from the comfort of one of the room’s two desk chairs. I can’t help but smile when I see the next generation of fathers and mothers re-enacting this unique rite of passage.
Homecoming is the perfect time of the year to come back to Ferris and relive some of your own glory days. Is there anything like setting foot on the campus of your alma mater to make you feel instantly young again? Come and be a part of all the festivities: parade, football game, dance-reception and much more. Our students on the Homecoming Committee are working hard to make sure your return to campus will be a memorable one.
I would like to thank the many of you who took the time to recommend a student for entrance to Ferris State University. Each year, hundreds of incoming students arrive, fully laden, thanks to the support of our graduates. If you have not had the opportunity to do so, simply log on to our Web site, www.ferrisalumni.org and click on the application fee waiver to help a prospective Bulldog find their path to Ferris today!
Best wishes to you all, I hope to see you the weekend of October 13-15!
Sincerely,

Jeremy Mishler, E ’96
P.S. Please help us make Crimson & Gold a publication that most suits your interests. We’re going to have an on-line survey you can take by visiting www.ferrisalumni.org. We’ll have some prize drawings for those who take part. We’d love to hear from you!
