Studying Abroad...in New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the most secluded places on the planet, making it also one of the most diverse. The aspect of its diversity that I have enjoyed the most is that of its geography. During my stay I have seen mist cling to mountain valleys as the sun rose to burn it away. I hiked through coastal mountains to cliffs against the sea and watched as the rain fell on the ocean waves, only to be dispersed intermittently by golden rays of sunlight. I walked along a creek, through a jet-black cave whose ceiling was lit like the myriad of stars in the heaven by tiny glow-worms. And I drove out of the mountains at night just in time to see the moon break through the clouds, sending silver ripples cascading over the surface of the Tasman Sea. My study abroad experience has honed my self-reliance and many other skills that will be useful when I return to Ferris and when I start my career in the future. It is impossible for me to put a monetary value on what I have gained mentally, physically and spiritually on this trip/expedition/adventure as other Ferris students who have studied abroad would agree. I'm just thankful I was able to do this and that Ferris helped to make it possible. |
