Ferris Fights Hate With Paint
A nationally recognized artist teamed with Ferris
State students, staff, faculty members and the Big Rapids community
to reflect on social issues and paint a vision for the future during
the Week Against Hate last April.
While on campus, artist Amy Bartell painted a
96-square foot mural to address social issues and reflect the climate
of diversity and tolerance at Ferris. While at the University, Bartell
stayed in a resident hall, ate in campus dining facilities and worked
with Ferris community members to paint the mural.
An acclaimed artist and committed activist, Bartell
uses her talent to create images that bring social issues to light.
Her artwork is held in the permanent collections of the Chicago
Trade Commission, SUNY New York, Price Warehouse and Trump Towers.
Bartell’s mural project took approximately
three weeks in the Student Lobby of the Rankin Center. Upon completion,
the mural was hung in the Rankin Center near the Dome Room.
