CWEC Dedicates New South Pacific Exhibit
The Card Wildlife Education Center has a new South
Pacific collection at its site in the Arts and Sciences Commons
on Ferris State’s Big Rapids’ campus.
CWEC founders Roger and Debra Card donated new
specimens from Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia for the
exhibit, including sika deer, hog deer, rusa deer, red kangaroo,
wallaby and bush-tailed opossum.
“The South Pacific Room is special to me,”
said Roger Card. “This has been an opportunity for Deb and
I to share our excitement and our travels around the world.”
The primary function of the CWEC is to serve as
an educational resource for Ferris State, K-12 school children and
members of the Michigan community.
“We’ve had so many school children
go through this facility already,” said Matt Klein, interim
dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “We are a repository
for exhibits that stimulate the imagination—especially of
the young people who visit.”
In addition to its South Pacific collection, the
CWEC encompasses an Education Resource Center; Michigan and North
American Animals Display; African Mammals Display; and a Meeting
Room area, which displays animals from Africa, Asia, North America
and South America.
