Chapman
Runs With the Invaders
Former Ferris State women’s track and field
middle-distance runner Katie Chapman has joined the Indiana Invaders.
The Invaders are a team comprised of elite athletes who compete in USA
Track and Field National Championship competitions in cross country,
indoor and outdoor track and field along with the marathon.
A three-time NCAA Division II All-America honoree,
Chapman presently holds school records in both the indoor and outdoor
800-meter events at Ferris State. The University’s 2000-01 Most
Valuable Indoor and Outdoor Track Athlete placed third overall in the
800 meters while recording the program’s highest all-time individual
finish at the 2002 NCAA-II Indoor Track and Field Championships. She
also ranks first in the 4x800-meter relay and second in the outdoor
1,500-meter run among the school’s all-time performers to date.
According to Invaders Team Director Greg Harger, “Chapman
has the enthusiasm and talent to make an impact in short order. It’s
great to add someone of her talent to the roster. She knows what she
wants to accomplish, and she’s willing to make the sacrifices
required to get the job done.”
Chapman, who also competed in women’s cross
country at Ferris State, concluded her collegiate eligibility during
the 2001-02 campaign.
In 2001, the Invaders claimed the USA National Track
and Field Championship, the Women’s National Track and Field Club
title and the Women’s National Cross Country Club Championship
in its third full year of competition.
