Westman Named FPW Woman of the Year
Lee Ann Westman, associate professor of Humanities,
is Ferris State’s Professional Woman of the Year. She received
the award at the FPW’s annual luncheon ceremony.
Westman was cited for her scholarship and commitment
to women’s issues. The 2002 Woman of the Year Maude Bigford
noted the wide range of Westman’s interests, having delivered
lectures on such diverse topics as “Prehistoric Goddess Cultures,”
“Women Artists in the Middle Ages” and “Mexican-American
Artist Frida Kahlo.”
“Westman has earned admiration and respect
through hard work, a consistent philosophy of life and a genuine
decency,” said Bigford. “It’s no wonder that her
office is always filled with students—many of them young women—who
seek her advice and clearly regard her as a model for success.”
In accepting the award for 2003, Westman thanked
her fellow FPW members. “I’m so honored that you, whom
I consider real professionals, have given me this award.”
Since 1982 FPW has worked to support and promote
opportunities for women at the University and sought to contribute
to the improvement of the status of women in the culture at large.
