2003 Exceptional Merit Grants Announced
The Ferris Foundation has announced seven Exceptional
Merit Grants for 2003. The Foundation requested the submission of
proposals from those interested in pursuing projects that demonstrate
exceptional merit in advancing the mission of the University. Those
receiving funding are

Sid Systma, College of Business, for “An Online Pre- and
Post-Testing System for Measuring the Value Added by Core Courses.”

Tim Glover, Athletics, for “Enhancement of Athletic Training
Services.”

Charles R. Bacon, Mary K. Bacon, Arts & Sciences, for “Classroom
Communication System.”

Charles G. Drake, College of Technology, for “Laboratory
Experience Enhancement for Mechanical Engineering Technology.”

Bruce W. Smith, College of Technology, for “Facilitate
procurement and installation of instruction materials that will
be donated to the Construction Management program.”

Raymond Gant, Student Affairs, for “Collect various period-
icals and publications and information from interviews with
alumni, emeriti and staff that will create a publication that
will serve to chronicle the African American student influence
at Ferris State University.”

Carole K. Jones, Connie J. Nofz, University College and Robert
Buckingham, O.D., College of Optometry, for “Vision Exams
and Corrective Measures for Qualifying Ferris State Students.”
The
Exceptional Merit Grants program was established by the Ferris Foundation
to promote excellence in faculty and staff at the University. Funding
for the grants was provided by the annual Ferris Foundation benefit,
which also funds the Foundation for Excellence Scholarship Endowment.
The Gifts and Grants Committee consists of Foundation
Board Members Tom Hartwig, Clare Johnson, Randy Phelps, David Sobota,
Woody VandenBosch, David Wright, Julie Coso-Norman and John Wheeler;
Ferris Faculty and Staff Debra Cox, Carla Erlewine, Jim Hoerter, Tom
Oldfield, Adam Wetherell, Ron McKean, Kim Hancock and Carla Miller.
