Squicciarini Named Teacher of the
Year
Sheila
Squicciarini has been named Ferris State’s 2002 Distinguished
Teacher of the Year. The assistant professor of Nuclear Medicine Technology
received the honor after a rigorous process that included being nominated,
interviewed and observed teaching by members of the awarding board,
as well as having comments by her students reviewed.
Those
comments testify to the dedication behind Squicciarni’s award.
“Sheila is an amazing teacher,” one student wrote. “She
has a great sense of humor; she is genuine and caring. I have learned
more in one semester than in the last three years.”
Becoming
Teacher of the Year has been just one of the highlights in a busy year
for Squicciarini, although it’s an accomplishment she values highly.
“I don’t know how to tell you how honored I am,” she
said.
Other
notable events from this past year include a trip to China in October
to evaluate medical technology there, and being elected to the Nuclear
Medicine Technology Certification Board of Directors. She also has been
invited to take part in a summit this May sponsored by the Department
of Labor to help in rewriting national health-care standards.
