Dr. William Potter joined the Career Institute as co-director in June 2003. Potter's role with the Institute is to facilitate collaborative initiatives between secondary educational partners and various campus constituencies and to provide administrative support for the institute. He has previously been involved with the campus Career Development Task Force and several career decision-making programs sponsored by FSU's University College, including the Career Exploration Program (CARE) for undecided first-year students at Ferris and the High School Career Choices Program for area secondary school instructors, counselors, and students.

In addition to this assignment, Dr. Potter is Dean of University College at Ferris where he directs a diverse array of student support programs such as tutoring, peer mentoring, educational and career counseling, disabilities services, the campus-wide requirement for first-year seminars, supplemental instruction, developmental curricula in reading and career exploration, and the Honors Program. He began his work at Ferris in 1999 after twenty-five years in various administrative capacities at Alma College.

Potter earned a bachelor's degree in History at Alma College, a master's degree in History at Central Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in College and University Administration at Michigan State University.
