SAN Migration Project

The primary purpose of this project is the migration of all mission critical university data into a new centralized storage area network, or SAN. This SAN can be leveraged in a variety of ways to meet our data storage requirements, such as allowing for the expansion of storage with minimal effects on the application.

A large part of this project is the migration of the Novell cluster into this new SAN. This will include upgrades the core hardware for our Novell system, giving us the capabilities of handling future growth.

This project is part of a multi-year effort to provide a redundant data architecture for all mission critical university data.

Goals

• Implementation of the core Storage Area Network
• Migration of the Novell Cluster to new hardware and storage.
• Migration of all other critical University data, including:

  • Faculty Email
  • Student Email
  • Document Imaging (WebExtender/Docushare)
  • VMWare
  • FerrisConnect
  • Backup Staging Area
