PC Replacement

Primary Office Computer Replacement

The PC replacement project is intended to replace all primary office computers that are obsolete and do not meet the recommended minimum standard. The minimum standard is determined by the Standard’s Committee and is to be updated annually. With the help from deans and department heads, new computer purchases will be deployed based on division priorities. All primary computer support staff will work together to minimize the university’s expense and be as efficient as possible during the deployment.

The goals of this plan are to:

  • ensure that all faculty and staff members who use computing resources in their positions have access to a primary computer of sufficient capability to support basic computing needs in fulfillment of their work responsibilities;
  • review annually minimum standards for obsolescence of primary office computers increasing the supportability of the institution's installed base of software and equipment;
  • establish a centralized budget which provides assistance towards the funding and planning of replacement of obsolete primary computing resources for university employees, thereby providing relief to area budgets and reducing reliance on year-end surplus, current fund contingency, and reduced unit costs with higher quantity purchases;
  • refine the specification and streamline the acquisition and deployment of new equipment and re-deployment or disposal of old equipment removing a computer for every computer replaced;
  • forecast future replacements from historical computer purchases, the assignment of those computers, their serviceability, and the anticipated hardware requirements of future software.
