Responsibilities: The Dean of the Library provides leadership and serves as an advocate for the development and implementation of information access including online resources and online learning. Represents FLITE and promotes collaboration within the university and throughout the larger library and higher education communities. He/she reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and is a member of the Deans Council as well as other appropriate academic and administrative councils. The Dean of the Library has administrative responsibility for library-wide planning and policy direction as well as centralized library services such as budget, personnel, systems development, assessment, special collections, information services, and the media production unit.
Required Qualifications: A masters degree in library/information science from an ALA accredited program. Significant, successful, and increasingly responsible administrative experience in an academic or research library which includes strategic planning (short and long term) and budgetary skills necessary to develop innovative, technologically advanced programs and services. Demonstrated effective organizational, interpersonal, management, supervisory, and oral and written communications skills. Evidence of support for professional development for all staff. Awareness and understanding of trends in library and higher education. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a culturally diverse library faculty and staff, classroom faculty, university administration, and students.
Preferred Qualifications: Earned doctorate strongly preferred. Demonstrated activity in the profession. Experience working with a campus information technology department. Understanding of Web 2.0 tools. Experience in a work environment which includes collective bargaining.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications
