Mark Mathabane touched the hearts of millions with his sensational autobiography, Kaffir Boy. Telling the true story of his coming of age under apartheid in South Africa, the book won a prestigious Christopher Award, rose to No. 3 on The New York Times bestsellers list and to No. 1 on the Washington Post bestsellers list, and was translated into several languages. Today, the book is used in classrooms across the U.S. and is on the American Library Association's List of "Outstanding Books for the College-Bound."

7:00 PM, Williams Auditorium The Grand Percussion Group has been performing for more than twenty years.  William Vits, David Hall, Shannon Wood, Eric Sooy & Greg Secor have roots in educational performances for the Grand Rapids Symphony.  GPG presents percussion music that mixes traditional works for mallet ensembles, exotic instruments and modern composers.  Each member’s expertise and versatility brings strength to the ensemble.   With dozens of instruments on stage you’ll be challenged to name them all.

 US National Scottish Fiddle Champion and winner of 6 Detroit Music Awards leads an exceptional band whose musical roots transverse the world.With the drive of Celtic fiddling, the spontaneity of jazz, soul of bluegrass, rhythms of Africa and Latin America, layered melodies of Eastern Europe and intricacies of chamber music, the Jeremy Kittel Band consistently captivates audiences.Jeremy is joined by versatile guitarist Kyle Sanna, World Music award-winning percussionist Bodek Janke, award-winning bassist Andrew Kratzat and cellist Tristan Clarridge, a 4-time National Fiddle Champion.
