The Ferris State University Mail Center (ext. 2161) will come to your office and pick up
items to be mailed. The regular schedule for office pickups is: 11:00 a.m., 3:30
p.m., and 4:30 p.m.. The Mail Center will take items to the Big Rapids Post Office
for you and mail them. There is no cost for this service. Tell the Mail Center
delivery clerk what mailing options you require. (See 3 below for the full list of
services) The costs of mailing, as charged by the Post Office, will be billed to
your department. You should inform your departmental administrator if you are going
to use this service so that billing can be expedited.
In an emergency, the Mail Center will pick up at your office on demand outside the regular
pickup hours. The final time for emergency pickups is 4:30 p.m.. However, if
you anticipate an emergency mailing, you should ALWAYS telephone the Mail Center to advise
them of this situation. If you do this, the Mail Center will make every effort to
accomodate your needs, even after 4:30 p.m..
For further information about the mailing services offered from the Big
Rapids Post Office, consult the United States Postal Service website at: http://new.usps.com.
Electronic Proposal Submisison
Currently, the NSF requires electronic proposal submission through its FastLane program.
Link to FastLane (https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/) for complete
information. Other federal granting agencies are also moving towards electronic
proposal submission. In the near future this will be the norm rather than the
exception for federal grants. Currently, state and private (foundations) granting
agencies do not usually require electronic proposal submission.
Even when electronic submission is the norm, some parts of a grant proposal may still
require traditional mailing. These may include institutional and programatic
signature pages. Read the proposal submission instructions for your granting agency
very carefully to determine what parts of your proposal may be submitted electronically
and what parts still require traditional mailing.
