Responsibilities and Qualifications
Institutional Profile
Leadership
- Responsible for the strategic focus and quality of all academic programs
- Committed to academic excellence, program review, policy development, and academic program planning
- Build on current strengths by continuing to develop the quality and depth of faculty and staff.
- Responsible for the continued development of a student-centered environment with emphasis on student support, academic advisement, retention and graduation efforts
- Help realize Ferris' commitment to diversity throughout the University
- Ability to think systematically and globally in the advancing the mission of FSU.
Administration
- Reports to the President and acts for the President when necessary.
- Supervises the efforts of deans in nine colleges at the associate, bachelors, masters, and first professional levels.
- Responsible for the recruitment, appointment, retention, and evaluation of faculty and staff
- Responsible for the development and administration of the budget of the Office of Academic Affairs and for all of its units.

- Solidify and promote an academic vision reflective of a Learning-Centered University
- Possess character that combines human compatibility, integrity, the highest standards of ethics, and the determination to be an effective team member
- Uses university resources wisely.
Relationships
- Engage and collaborate closely with students, staff, faculty, and administrative colleagues throughout the University and the state

- Understand and build on Ferris' unique mix of career- oriented educational programs and delivery systems to meet educational and economic needs throughout Michigan

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a comfortable public presence
- Active involvement with and knowledge of academic assessment and accountability
- Proven track record of delegation and collaboration

- Ability to work with the faculty, with representatives selected by the faculty, and with all members of the university community.
- Experience with fundraising
- Energy, stamina, and a sense of humor
Required Qualifications
- An earned terminal degree
- Credentials consistent with appointment as a tenured full professor
- Progressively significant academic leadership experience with line responsibility as a dean or above
