What are ADP Values?
The American Democracy Project promotes engagement and participation in civic life, recognizing that individuals can accomplish more through cooperative work for public good than when pursuing only individual goals. Toward this end, the ADP provides education programs and activities that help young adults learn critical thinking skills, develop a knowledge base about our government and our
history, and inspire commitment to exercise their rights and responsibilities as defined by the U.S. Constitution. It does not promote partisanship or affiliation with any particular political party. Perhaps ADP Values are best reflected in the comments of others:
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
-Edmund Burke, Philosopher &
political activist writing in 1790 about democratic self-government
"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what
you can do for your country."
-President John F.
Kennedy's inaugural speech (1961)
"There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a
time when we fail to protest"
- Elie Wiesel, Chairman, Presidential Commission on the Holocaust; Nobel Peace Prize (1986); founder of Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity
"Be the change you want to see in the world"
–Mohandas K. Gandhi, leader in the Indian National Congress and Indian Independence Movement
