Social Norming
|
|
The social norms project at Ferris State began in 2000. Its primary goals are to reduce alcohol abuse, alchohol-impaired, and alcohol-related harm among Ferris State students.
The project relies primarily on peer education presentations and media to communicate about positive but unrecognized social norms that exist among Ferris State students.Posters and other materials are developed specifically for Ferris State, based on campus research. Social norms messages are also portrayed through popular university events, held every semester. Students are involved at every step of media development and event management, from brainstorming to final distribution and implementation. All our posters since Fall of 2000 have been designed by FSU. Starting in 2008 all graphics will be created by our graphic design students.
In addition to University support, the project has been supported by the National Social Norms resource Center with funding from the Anheuser Busch Foundation.
Goal of Social Norm:
To change the perception of what students believe to be the campus norm to what the campus norm actually is.
