Little Traverse Bay Ferry Has
Changed Hands and Is in
New Waters
------
After plying two summers between Little Traverse bay resorts, subsequent to having been remodeled when taken from the Inland Route, the steamer Pe-To-Se-Ga, has been taken to Traverse City. Commodore A.L. Hamill having sold it to Judge W. H. Umlor, of that place, who probably will run it on Grand Traverse bay as an excursion boat or as a means of furnishing transportation between the different resorts. Captain Emory too the boat from Petoskey to Traverse.
The craft gets its power from two Sutton engines, has twin propellers, and a speed of ten miles or better. She is seventy-five feet long, has a sixteen foot beam, and a licensed capacity of one hundred and twenty-five passengers, although she is easily capable of carrying two hundred and has carried two hundred fifty. There are two decks on the vessel, and although there are no closed cabins, the rear of the lower deck is fitted with canvas side curtains so that it can be made absolutely rain and weather proof. The boat was designed as an excursion boat, but there is ample room for carrying freight or fruit.
It has not yet been definitely decided what
run the boat will be put on. Mr. Umlor is very desirous of keeping the
vessel on the bay routes, if there is sufficient patronage to make it a
paying proposition. For a few days at least the boat will run wild,
wherever she has a trip, but it is altogether possible that later on, if the
necessary arrangements can be made, excursions to the island will be made for
the remainder of the season. There is at least a month of warm weather
left, and the run to the island has never been so appreciated as at the
present, when there is no boat making the trip.
