The "cycle" of
Injection Molding machine is normally described in the following sequence:
Clamping
The Movable Platen and the "B" side of the mold are
moved into "Clamped/Closed" position, and clamping pressure is applied the
exceeds the necessary injection pressure.
Filling and Packing
Material is "Fed" into the Sprue, Runner, Gate, and the
cavity, Gasses contained in the cavity are released via vent (.002-.010) opening
at the last point of fill.
Hold / Cooling
The longest period of time in the cycle, is the cooling
phase. This time is approximately 75% of the entire cycle time.
Ejection
After the material has solidified adequately, the parts can
be ejected from the "B" side of the mold.
