Introduction

"Battery Cover - 040506-P3" is a small part that slides over the top of the batteries in a QuikTune Guitar Tuner. The part requires proper fill in the tool to ensure quality throughout production. The following information helps graphically illustrate what is happening inside the tool with the indicated gate location. This particular gate location is well suited for the desired layout.

Glass Model

Solid Model

Plastic Flow

The cavity will most likely be successfully filled with little or no problems using a PC / ABS blend. Probable mold conditions are 168 F with a melt temp of 527 F.

Fill Time

     Animation - Fill Time

The estimated fill time for "Battery Cover - 040506-P3" with this particular gate location is arpoximately 0.33 seconds. Consistent radial fill is noted by the isochrones, which indicate end of fill variance of about 0.05 seconds. This part should fill with satisfactory results.

Confidence of Fill

The estimated confidence of fill for "Battery Cover - 040506-P3" is highly satisfactory. The analysis indicates that all areas of the cavity will be fully filled. Aproximated injection pressure is 10.62 MPa with a .19 cu. in. shot volume. The predicted clamp tonage required is 1.4 tons.

Quality Prediction

The estimated quality prediction for "Batter Cover - 040506-P3" is very high. According to the analysis the area directly above the gated tab is the only area of concern. Piece parts should be satisfactory, but minor alterations to the product design may solve any problems.

Weld Lines

As indicated by the CAE analysis of "Battery Cover - 040506-P3" two weld lines may form. The most probable of which is between the two undercut tabs. Unless specified by product designer, these weld lines should present little or no problems, especially since they are in inconspicious areas where the part is most likely hidden from the consumer.

Air Traps

The projected areas for air traps in "Batter Cover - 040506-P3" should be easily vented. The biggest spots of concern are at the end of fill at the undercut tabs and the center of the downward bend, which should easily be vented at the parting line.
