Fonner Homepage General Information

Recommended Browser

Internet Explorer (IE) 4.5 or higher. Netscape 6 or higher does not support certain Web features used in the course.

Setting IE Cache

When using WebCT, particularly the self-assessment quizzes, set the cache on your Browser to refresh every time. Browsers store pages you visit in an area of memory called cache. That way when you revisit the page, it displays the page from memory. This saves down load time (a real benefit if you are using a slow modem). Unfortunately, cache has unpredictable effects on WebCT.

To set cache to refresh every time, select Internet Options in the Tools menu. Select Settings in the Temporary Internet file dialog area. Click the Every visit to page radio button and then click OK. The Delete files button in the Internet Options dialog box clears cache of previously stored pages. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box and apply your changes.

Navigating Site

Generally, you can use the Back and Forward features of your Browser to navigate this site. Additionally, the glomerulus icon returns you to a higher order menu or page. For example, clicking the glomerulus icon on this page takes you back to Fonner's homepage.

email Doc

Generally, it's best to use your normal email account or WebCT email to contact me, especially if you want me to reply. The email Doc link is primarily for emailing me information that does not require a reply (e.g., spelling errors, bad links or other problems that need my attention). If you expect a reply, be sure to include your email address in the box provided.

Password

Your default password for the course is your nine digit student number in 3-2-4 format with hyphens (000-00-0000). You can change your password for the course. You cannot change your password for the Gradebook, however. If you want a new Gradebook password contact me. Changing your password for the course homepage does not affect your WebCT account password.

Popup Labels

Many of images in the course materials have pop-up labels. These utilize a MouseOver feature where you simply move the cursor over the "hot spot". In pc jargon these are called tooltips.

In order to view tooltips, you need Internet Explorer 4 or higher. Additionally, Javascript has to be enabled. This is the default setting for browsers, so unless someone played with your browser settings, this should not be an issue.

Hot spots on images are indicated with the color green. These may be in the form of pins or green objects. You can test your browser's support for tooltips by moving the cursor over the green areas on the two pointers below.

Printing Pages

To print the notes, first left mouse click on the page you want to print and then select print from the toolbar of the browser. If you don’t click the page first, the browser won’t know which frame to print. You can also right click the page and select print from the popup menu.

Copying Pages into Word

If you want, you can copy web pages into a Word document. To select everything on the page, left click on the page while holding down the Ctrl and A keys. Press Ctrl C (Ctrl and C keys) to copy everything to the clip board. Open a blank Word document and paste (Ctrl V) the copied material to the Word document.
