Part I Part II Part III Part IV

The Clinical Laboratory Sciences programs use instructional laboratories within the Victor F. Spathelf Center for Allied Health on the Ferris State University campus. VFS 103, 104, and 104A total 2100 square feet. VFS 103 is used for hematology, coagulation and body fluids, and immunohematology instruction. It was designed for 15 students. Usually only 12-13 students are assigned to any one lab section. For your safety, VFS 103 has a fire extinguisher, fire blanket, safety shower, eye wash station, hand washing sink, separate sinks for dirty glassware and biological staining, a telephone, and a first aid kit. VFS 103 also includes a biological safety cabinet for student and faculty use.

VFS 104 is used for clinical chemistry instruction. Like VFS 103, it was designed for 15 students. However, chemistry analyzers at some seats have limited student assignments to about 12 per laboratory section. VFS 104 has a fire extinguisher, fire blanket, safety shower, eye wash station, hand washing sink, a separate sink for dirty glassware, a telephone, and a first aid kit. VFS 104 also includes a chemical fume hood and a storage cabinet for flammable materials.

VFS 104A is used for preparation of laboratory specimens and reagents, washing of glassware, autoclaving of microbiology media and medical waste, and other tasks. A fire extinguisher is located just outside the room, and there is easy access to safety showers, eyewash stations, and the first aid kits in VFS 103 and 104.

Laboratory sessions for microbiology, immunology, and occasionally immunohematology, are held in VFS 421. This large laboratory occupies 1500 square feet. It is equipped with a fire extinguisher, fire blanket, safety shower, eye wash station, hand washing sink, separate sinks for dirty glassware and biological staining, a telephone, and a first aid kit.
