NORM SCHIPPA'S
After 11 years at the helm, Norm Schippa retired as the
Surveying
Engineering Equipment Room Clerk. During that time, many a student learned
to love and respect this retired contractor. Norm was there when the
Department had its greatest growth.
He was always there with a warm smile and a friendly hand. With the help of his wife, Marilyn, Norm kept the students well equipped with
candy and other treats. We all felt that this was his attempt to bribe the
students. Nonetheless, they always had a nice thing to say to and about
Norm Schippa.
Graduates always talked about Norm and many kept in touch with him via email. When he came to Ferris, Norm had no real use for computers. Now he and Marilyn have one at home. We hope that they remember our email addresses.
On February 8, 2002, Norm retired from Ferris. In his honor, the faculty and students held a reception in his honor. We were very fortunate that his wife Marilyn was also in attendance. This get-together was held to thank the both of them for everything that they did for the Surveying Engineering Department and its students.
At
the reception, the faculty presented Norm with a Ferris State University
coffee mug so that he can think of us as he has his morning coffee, probably a
lot later in the day then when he was working with us. Like all good
retirements, they also presented Norm with a watch. The students also
expressed their appreciation by giving Norm a Surveying Engineering tee shirt
with hat and a nice gift certificate to Schuberg's. Remember Norm that
that is for food only.
At the end, everyone gathered together for a couple of last pictures. These show Norm, his wife Marilyn, and Norm's friends -- the students and faculty of the Surveying Engineering Department at Ferris State University.
We thank Norm for all of the great memories and the good times. Everyone in the Department will miss him and we hope he visits often.
