If students are not motivated to do their schoolwork, it’s because they view schoolwork as irrelevant to their basic human needs.
Teachers need to find ways to make the intrinsic rewards of doing academic work clear to the students, correlating any learning or assignments to the students’ basic needs.
Students recognize that the work they do is low level work. Even with the praise of teachers, they still feel it is "leaning on your shovel work."
A Student’s response that class is boring may mean:
- It’s hard
- I don’t see the point
- I can already do it
- I don’t understand
