Small Group Instructional
Diagnosis (SGID) is available to any faculty member through the Center for
Teaching and Learning.
SGID is an informal,
completely confidential assessment of how an instructor’s current course is
progressing. Students in groups are ask to respond to three questions,
“What do you like about the course”, What would you
change about the course?” and “What would you delete from the course?”
The responses recorded are only those given through group consensus. This ensure
that the feedback faculty receive is a more accurate reflection of how most
students feel rather than individual issues that may only concern one student.
These group responses are then shared with the entire group which is asked to
indicate if they agree with a given response or not. The responses and the
number of students that agreed with each response are then shared confidentially
with the professor in person or by e-mail.
The whole process takes
about 25 minutes. It is a very valuable and timely way to check the progress of
your courses and demonstrates to students your interest and willingness to
receive feedback from them to improve the course.
Faculty interested should
contact Terry Doyle at ext 2808 or by e-mail for an appointment. SGID’s are best
done in the first 5-7 weeks of class.
