Teaching University

Ferris State is a “teaching university”.  It has as its highest priority the teaching of its undergraduate and graduate students through a learner centered approach. Students are expected to take an active role in their education with many programs requiring internship experiences for their students. All faculty by contract are required to act as student advisors.

Ferris State as it enters in 120th year of operation is mid-way through implementing new admission standards that seek to increase the academic quality of the student body while protecting the historical mission of the university to provide an opportunity to students who are willing to work hard to earn an education.

Ferris State has several off-campus sites with a major presence in Grand Rapids, Michigan through Ferris Grand Rapids locate in the ATC Building and Kendall College of Art and Design which became part of Ferris State University in 2001.
