  • Distinguished Teacher Showcase-Fred Heck
The Nature of Science: Implications for the Debate About Teaching
    Creationism in the Science Classroom

    Thurs | 03/16/06 | 11:00 AM-12:00 PM | Fred Heck | FLITE 214
    | Pizza Lunch
There are widespread misconceptions in the general public about the nature of science as a methodology for understanding the natural world. This lack of understanding is part of the reason that a small but vocal minority has convinced some school boards in the nation to require the teaching of creationism in the science curriculum as an alternative “theory” to evolution. Dispelling these misconceptions is a first and essential step in the effort to help people understand that creationism is not scientific, is not a theory, and should certainly not be a required part of the science curriculum.
