Student Technology Services (STS) recommends that students interested in obtaining network access from their rooms via their own computers have the following MINIMUM requirements in mind before bringing a computer from home to campus. If you plan to invest in a new machine, we suggest that you EXCEED the minimum requirements to the extent that you can afford the purchase. We also suggest an USB keychain drive and all the accessories you can afford. However, please don't feel pressured to purchase more than you feel you can safely afford.


Desktop Recommended Minimum for Windows Operating Systems:

• Dual Core Intel or Dual Core AMD processor
• At least 1GB (1024MB) of memory (RAM)
• At least 80GB Hard Drive
• CD-RW or CD-RW/DVD Combo
• Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
• Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (1024 X 768) or higher resolution
• Network Interface Card (10/100/1000 Base-T)
• Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional SP2
