Student Technology Services (STS)
STS recommends that students interested in obtaining network access from their rooms via their own computers have the following MINIMUM requirements in mind before bringing a computer from home to campus.
If you plan to invest in a new machine, we suggest that you EXCEED the minimum requirements to the extent that you can afford the purchase.
We also suggest an USB keychain drive and all the accessories you can afford. However, please don't feel pressured to purchase more than you feel you can safely afford.

Desktop Recommended Minimum for Windows Operating Systems:
- Dual Core Intel or Dual Core AMD proccesor
- At least 1GB (1024MB) of memory (RAM)
- At least 80GB Hard Drive
- CD-RW or CD-RW/DVD Combo
- Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
- Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (1024 X 768) or higher resolution
- Network Interface Card (10/100/1000 Base-T)
- Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional SP2
Laptop Recommended Minimum for Windows Operating Systems:
- Dual Core Intel or Dual Core AMD proccesor
- At least 1GB (1024MB) of memory (RAM)
- At least 80GB Hard Drive
- CD-RW/DVD Drive
- On board Network Interface Card (10/100/1000 Base-T)
- Wireless (Internal 802.11b/g)
- Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional SP2
MacBook Pro Recommended Minimum:
- 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- At least 1GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
- At least 120GB Hard Drive
- Slot-loaded SuperDrive (DVD-RW/CD)
- ATI Radeon X1600 with 128MB memory
- Gigabyte Ethernet (10/100/1000 Base-T)
- AirPort Extreme Wireless Networking (802.11b/g)
- Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
iMac Recommended Minimum:
- 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- At least 1GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
- At least 160GB Hard Drive
- SuperDrive 8x with 2.4x Dual Layer
- Gigabyte Ethernet (10/100/1000 Base-T)
- Bult-in AirPort Exreme and Bluetooth 2.0
