Jim's responsibilities include providing telephone, cable television, university (bulldog) card, student and administrative billing, telephone operator, internet, centralized and television production repair services to the campus community. In addition, he is responsible for providing the fiber optic, twisted pair, and coaxial distribution systems on campus as well as the interfaced to common value-added, and private carriers. He plans, staffs and directs the activities of technical specialists to provide these services in a reliable, usable and cost effective manner in accordance with the university mission. Jim interfaces with users to determine communications requirements and to assess the impact and appropriateness of installed and/or new services and equipment. He establishes local communications standards to insure compliance with university and government-directed requirements, and monitors and analyzes local, state, and federal tariff changes and regulatory legislation and their effect on installed services.
Jim is a member and actively participates in, MiCTA, West Michigan Telecommunications Association, Association of College and University Telecommunications Administrators, Meridian Users Association of Michigan, and the International SL-1 Users Association. He is also a 1996 graduate of the Cacubo Management Institute.
