My Future:
Beyond Graduation

How long will it take to complete this degree? Typically, Ferris offers about six credit hours per semester at any given location. Occasionally, this will be slightly higher or lower, depending on the preferences of the cohort. With this pace, the sequence of Ferris courses generally requires 2.5 years to complete. Beyond this time, students will typically need to complete additional courses from the community college to fill gaps in their degree plans, but this varies widely between the many students in the program. Is there any paper work, like a graduation application or program audit request, that needs to be submitted prior to graduation? When you get close to your graduation, you will need to fill out and submit an application for graduation. This will begin the degree audit process, where your formal records are examined to ensure that degree requirements have been met. Check with your advisor at least two semesters prior to when you anticipate completing your requirements.Top

What kinds of jobs are out there that this degree might be suitable? It may depend somewhat on one's Associate’s degree or area of specialization before joining the program, however, the BAS in ITM is a very versatile degree, our graduates look for jobs related to industrial management and supervision, team leadership, line or operations management, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, continuous improvement, value analysis, Six Sigma, quality control, health and safety, project engineering, program management, product design, and the like. The ITM degree has an overarching manufacturing theme to it. However, our graduates do not focus strictly on finding employment or promotion within manufacturing. Recognizing the degree's versatility, our students may search for jobs in other sectors beyond or in addition to manufacturing. In the service sector, for example, there are organizations like United Parcel Service (UPS), FedEx, and DHL that need operation managers, industrial engineering specialists, quality and safety personnel, and so on. Large hospitals and retailers from the service sector are also constantly looking for ways to improve there operations and, as a result, they are practically always in need of the knowledge and skills that our graduates can provide.Top

What type of graduate programs can ITM graduates pursue? Some of our former students are pursuing advanced degrees at a number of locations. We currently have alumni in Master of Business Administration programs at The University of Michigan and Western Michigan University, but with this degree one could pursue a number of other opportunities as well. Among these options would be an MS in Engineering Management, MS in Mfg Tech, MS Quality, MS Industrial Supervision and Management, Masters in Labor Relations and Human Resources, and many others.Top
