2008 Conference Highlights

Educational Workshop

  • Energy Education - Eric Quillitsch, Assistant Professor for FSU's Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Department will provide basic information on units of energy and how energy is transmitted via utility companies to the average consumer.  Energy bills will be used to illustrate how energy is consumed and how consumers are charged for energy.  This workshop will also provide insight into issues utility companies are facing when bringing energy to the consumer and why, as consumers, we pay for this service.

  • Energy Incentives -This workshop, presented by Dan Sovinski, Plant Engineer at Ferris State University and Matt Rosendaul with Great Lakes Home Performance LLC, will provide information on tax credits available to consumers for energy efficiency, (e.g. Energy Star) utilization of renewable energy, and other potential incentives for energy efficiency and renewable energy usage.

  • Energy Auditing - Mike Korcal, Assistant Professor for FSU's Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Department will provide the basic definition of energy auditing and basic 'how to' steps for people to conduct basic energy auditing for a given facility.  The workshop shall include educational steps in 'Energy Conservation Measures' (ECM) and their impact (energy wise and financially).

  • Geothermal - the  Myth and the Legend - This workshop, presented by Michael Lafferty. The geothermal industry is closely tied to the  costs of available energies.  There will be discussion about related  alternatives that are coming on the scene, such as wind, solar and hydrogen. This workshop will help to dispel the common concerns that people  have regarding the technology along with covering technical, design  and financial questions.
