GET INVOLVED WITH MLK 2010!
On behalf of the Office of Multicultural Student Services and the 2010 MLK Celebration Planning Committee, we would like to announce to you several initiatives that you can get involved in supporting this year's upcoming celebration.
The 2010 MLK Celebration is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 17 through Thursday, Jan. 21 at Ferris State University and will feature several opportunities for you to engage together with others and celebrate the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
THIS IS HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

  1. The 2010 MLK Poster Board Competition - A student, registered student organization or hall council can enter a poster board centered on this year's theme "THE JIM CROW ERA: THEN & NOW". *Please see attached flyer for contest details. Submission of poster boards will be due Wednesday, Dec. 9th to the Office of Multicultural Student Services in FLITE 159!
  2. The 2010 MLK Student Tribute - A student, registered student organization or hall council can participate in creating a presentation for the Annual Student Tribute, held Monday, Jan. 18th. If you are interested in participating, there will be a mandatory meeting you must attend Thursday, Nov. 19th at 5 PM in the Office of Multicultural Student Services in FLITE 159!
  3. 2010 MLK Legacy Award  - The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award is given to a student and student organization that exemplifies excellence in leadership, passion for service and a demonstrated commitment to social responsibility in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. You must be nominated to be considered for recognition of this word by an FSU faculty or staff member and nominations will be due Wednesday, Dec. 9th via email to Michael Wade at michaelwade@ferris.edu *(please have your nominators include a narrative and any information on why you should be deserving of this award!)
  4. Contribute to the Jim Crow Museum - The Jim Crow Museum is the largest publicly accessible collection of racist artifacts in the country. With expanded space and greatly enhanced multi-media displays, the Museum will promote racial tolerance by helping people understand the historical and contemporary expressions of intolerance. You can help us turn that dream into a reality. For information, visit the website http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/ or contact Prof. Andy Karafa 231-591-2738.

All finalists and participants of the above MLK activities will be recognized at the 2010 Legacy Awards Dinner Thursday, January 21st. Thank you for your support and leadership in supporting the 2010 MLK Celebration!

Minneapolis Guitar Quartet with Flamenco Dancer Colette Illarde

With the passion, style, and musical sophistication borrowing from the best chamber music and string quartet traditions, the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet has successfully made its case as one of the world's leading guitar ensembles since its founding in 1986.
In 2006, the MGQ began a fascinating new concert collaboration with Flamenco dancer Colette Illarde, featuring an original production of Six Pieces on Spanish Folksongs by the great Spanish composer Enrique Granados. With music arranged by the MGQ, the choreography by Ms. Illarde reflects the extraordinary vitality of Spanish culture and includes Spanish regional and folk dancing, classical ballet and flamenco.
