XXI(21st ) NORTH AMERICAN SURVEYING AND MAPPING EDUCATORS CONFERENCE

Keynote presentation 'The Geomatics Profession' by John D. Bossler

Dr. Bossler will discuss his varied career in some detail. He will begin with his graduation as a Civil Engineer from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. He will point out career possibilities to students who are graduating at or near this time. His career covered the subject areas of hydrography, photogrammetry, geodesy (before and after GPS), and GIS. His work as Director of the Ohio State University's (OSU) Center for Mapping will be discussed in the context of government-industry-university partnerships. He will also discuss several interesting consulting jobs that he has accomplished since retiring from OSU.
Some suggestions will be made regarding the future of geomatics and the technologies that will be available.
