Ferris Represented at Canadian National Chemistry Meeting
At this summer’s Canadian National Chemistry Meeting, held in Montreal, Pasquale Di Raddo, professor of chemistry, spoke about “Industrial Chemistry Technology: An Alternative Career Opportunity for Undergraduate Chemistry Students.”
Specifically referring to Ferris’s program, Di Raddo described to the audience of some 80 university educators that, in addition to bachelor and doctorate programs in the sciences, there exists the two-year associate chemistry stream, which permits its graduates to perform most of the responsibilities carried out by BS chemists. In addition, the starting salaries for the two groups of scientists are the same. “The talk was well received by those in attendance,” said Di Raddo.
In addition to chemistry education, the major theme of the conference, entitled Chemistry in Life Sciences, was how the major challenges for chemistry in the 21st century will lie in understanding the many chemical processes that make life possible.
